Uruguay booked a World Cup semi-final with Holland on Friday after beating Ghana 4-2 on penalties, 120 minutes having produced a 1-1 stalemate at Soccer City, Johannesburg.

Ghana scored first through midfielder Sulley Muntari with a 30-yard drive in first-half stoppage time, before Diego Forlan equalised with a long-range free-kick in the 55th minute.

In a dramatic finale, Asamoah Gyan missed a last-minute spotkick awarded after Luis Suarez handballed on the line – which saw the striker sent off – though Gyan converted in the shootout.

Uruguay, champions in 1930 and 1950, will play the Netherlands in the semi-finals in Cape Town on Tuesday.

Hi, i am from Uruguay, first than all sorry for my english.
Now i dont know why everbody hate us, because we won a match.
Is true we kick off the local and the last african team.
And yes is true our player stop a shoot with the hand. And that is not adirty play, that is a FAULT! and that was punished with red card, and Ghana has the oportunity to win, whitout an extra hand of our team, and thei lose it.
Our country suffered a lot in this world cup, but we never surrender, we will do what ever possible to win. And see the ressults we are invicts in this WP. We won in the past, and yes in this last time our soccer wasnt the best, but we still alive! FULL of dreams, like all the countrys, we are just 3 millions and we love our Flag. I dont care if we win the cup or not, i think that team what we have now is so great, and winning or not, thei are showing our power to all the world. Im sorry but this is a great tournament, and only one will win.
