Uruguay could really ruin my World Cup!

Ever since England exited the World Cup my interest in the competition has slightly dipped but I found a way of making the remaining games a bit more interesting.

I decided to have a few small bets on the competition.

Lucky

The first bet I decided to put on was David Villa to score the first goal in Spain’s quarter-final against Paraguay.

The other was what I thought was a safe bet, Spain to win the game in normal time. I’m not usually a gambling man but the World Cup is always good for a little flutter.

The fact that I won the two above bets was very lucky. Considering that Paraguay missed a penalty and Xabi Alonso also missing from the spot for Spain. Also the fact that Villa’s winning effort hit both of the posts before crossing the goalline was also very fortunate.

I only put a small amount on but being a bit greedy it got me thinking I should have put more money on! I couldn’t believe my luck.

Win-Win

Now the second bet I put on was for either Germany or Holland to win the World Cup. Then through one of our partner sites I received a free bet on Spain to win the competition. So now the only way I can lose my money is if Uruguay does the unthinkable and wins the trophy.

The South American’s have impressed during the World Cup and are the surprise package of South Africa 2010. One reassuring factor for me is that one of Uruguay’s strikers Luis Suarez will be suspended for the semi-final clash with Holland.

The ideal situation for me would be a Germany-Holland final. If either side wins I will make a tidy profit. If Spain wins I will receive slightly less money back but will still have received more money than I have paid out.

Outsiders

Now of course Uruguay is the rank outsiders and surely they can’t beat the odds and make the final? Or can they? They have looked strong throughout the competition but only got through to the semi-finals after Ghana’s Asamoah Gyan missed a last gasp penalty in the quarter-finals.

Are they really strong enough to defeat the Dutch? I really hope they aren’t but at World Cup finals you just never know.

Holland has impressed in fits and starts but hasn’t looked completely unbeatable. Holland will be without young full-back Gregory Van der Wiel and midfielder Nigel De Jong. The South American’s could defeat the Dutch and that would leave me hoping that the Germans or Spanish can beat Diego Forlan’s side in the World Cup Final.

Responsible

I have placed these bets as a bit of fun and that’s what football betting should be about, fun. I have been responsible with the amount of money I have used and never overstretched my budget. Betting or gambling can be very addictive.

If you are going to have a bet on the football then you must remember that you can lose as well as win. There is a great deal of fun to be had with small bets and it does feel great to win. However gambling is full of risks and pitfalls.
