Uruguay interantional loaned to Chicago Fire

Serie B side Palermo have announced that Uruguayan midfielder Egidio Arevalo Rios has joined Chicago Fire.

The MLS side signed the experienced midfielder on a loan deal until 31st December, and they have the option to made the deal permanent at any time.

Chicago Fire have produced quite a coup by signing a player who is a first team regular in one of South America’s top national teams.

Egidio Arevalo Rios spent much of his playing career in the Americas, before finally making a switch to Europe as he joined Palermo from Tijuana last summer.

The 30-year-old, however, had problems in adapting to Italian Serie A, and he soon expressed his desire to leave Renzo Barbera despite starting 22 league games and scoring 2 goals.

Meanwhile, he has kept his place on Oscar Tabarez’s squad, starting 10 of 12 matches for Uruguay in the South American Zone of the 2014 World Cup qualifying campaign.
