US captain Carlos Bocanegra and defender Steve Cherundolo have returned to European clubs and been replaced on the American roster for Tuesday’s friendly against Colombia.

Both players were part of the Americans’ 2-2 draw with Poland on Saturday in Chicago. Heath Pearce and Brek Shea, both from FC Dallas of Major League Soccer, were named to the 18-man US lineup for the match to replace them.

Bocanegra was released Sunday to return to Saint-Etienne of the French league while Cherundolo left Monday for Hannover, the third-place team in the Bundesliga which have a major match this weekend at Bayern Munich.

The Americans are 3-9 with three drawn against Colombia, losing in 2007 at Copa America in their most recent meeting.
