(GSM) – Real Salt Lake still have a small chance of winning the Major League Soccer Supporters Shield after fighting back to a 2-2 draw at Colorado Rapids.
Omar Cummings put Colorado in the lead after 16 minutes against RSL and Conor Casey doubled that advantage with a header seven minutes after the break.
Real Salt Lake needed at least one point to remain alive for the Supporters Shield, a race that seemed all but decided when the final minute of regular time passed by without goals.
But Alvaro Saborio did pull one back in the first minute of added time and RSL then earned a penalty two minutes later when defender Jamison Olave was brought down in the area.
Saborio took the spot kick and sent it past keeper Pickens for a 2-2 draw.
As a result, Los Angeles Galaxy now need a draw or a win against Dallas on Sunday in order to win the Supporters Shield and secure a spot in next year’s CONCACAF Champions League.
