(GSM) – Dutch side Utrecht caused one of the biggest upset of the day in Europa League football, beating Scottish giants 4-0 to advance to the group phase.
After winning their home match 2-0 last week, things were looking good for Celtic ahead of the return leg.
But Utrecht dominated from the start at a full Galgenwaard stadium and were given a penalty after ten minutes. Ricky van Wolfswinkel converted, and would do so again when the hosts were handed another spot kick on 18 minutes.
Van Wolfswinkel completed his hat-trick with a shot from the edge of the area right after the break, and Barry Maguire added a fourth for Utrecht in the 62nd minute.
The result means the end to Celtic’s European season, after the Scottish outfit had already lost to Sporting Braga in Champions League qualifiers.
