Valdes closing in on Manchester United switch

Former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes is set to sign a two-year deal with Manchester United, according to the Express.

The Spain international has been training with the Premier League club since October as he looks to return to fitness following a cruciate injury that he picked up in his final game for the Catalan club ten months ago.

Initially he was reluctant to move to Old Trafford to play second fiddle to international teammate David De Gea, but now he seems to have been persuaded to put pen to paper on a deal with Louis van Gaal’s side.

Liverpool had also been linked with a move for Valdes as they look to bring in competition for under-fire shot –stopper Simon Mignolet, but will now have to look elsewhere.

Since making his debut in 2002, Valdes racked up five hundred and thirty-five appearances for Barca, while he has been capped twenty times for his country.
