The Daily Star understands that Victor Valdes will sign a one-year deal with Liverpool next month, if he can pass a medical at the club.
The Spain international left Barcelona in the summer, though his time with the club didn’t end in the fashion he had hoped, after he picked up a cruciate ligament injury in a 3-0 La Liga win over Celta Vigo back in March.
Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is keen to bring in competition for first choice shot stopper Simon Mignolet, with Brad Jones and 21 year-old Danny Ward currently available as back-up.
In twelve years at the Nou Camp, Valdes racked up five hundred and thirty-five appearances in all competitions, winning a whole host of major honours in the process including six league titles and three Champions Leagues.
Internationally, he has been capped twenty times and was part of the squads that won the World Cup in 2010 and the European Championships two years later.
