There is yet more enthralling action to come in Spain’s top league as the club games come thick and fast. Every side will be desperate to pick up as many points as possible in the opening stages of January as they will want to begin the new year in the best way possible. With all of this in mind, Valencia host Girona on Saturday.

Valencia have looked very good this season but their title-challenge has stalled in recent weeks, meaning their poor run is threatening to see their good start count for nothing. After 17 games they have 10 wins, four draws and three defeats, while they have scored 36 goals and conceded 17 times. Interestingly, all three of their defeats have come in their last five games, which has seen the side onto 34 points this term, 11 shorts of leaders Barcelona. Valencia need to turn things are and quickly, or they will relinquish their grip on their Champions League spot.

Girona have been fairly good this season and they are looking to continue their drive away from the relegation zone. After 17 games they have six wins, five draws and six defeats, while they have needed 21 goals and conceded 26 times. This has all seen the side onto 23 points so far, meaning they are eight clear of the relegation zone. Saturday’s away side will feel that they may be able to capitalise on their host’s poor run of form. but we are backing Valencia with odds of 8/13 from Bet365.
