Valencia lead chase for River Plate starlet

Marca is reporting that La Liga outfit Valencia have emerged as favourites to sign River Plate midfielder Matias Kranevitter.

Los Che scout Roberto Ayala has returned to Mestalla after spending several months in his native Argentina and he has delivered glowing reports on the 21-year-old midfielder.

Ayala had also taken notice of Boca Juniors youngster Leo Suarez, but he has already signed a deal with Villarreal.

Meanwhile, sources from Argentina suggest that Valencia are on the verge of reaching an agreement for Kranevitter, who could be joining los Che in the January window.

And with the player recently receiving Italian passport, he is now even more appealing to Europe’s top clubs.

Kranevitter, who has been likened to Javier Mascherano for his style of play, has come through the youth ranks at River Plate and went on to make 41 league appearances for the senior side, while featuring in 10 Copa Sudamericana matches.
