Aritz Aduriz is hoping Valencia will bounce back from conceding a late equaliser against Osasuna when they meet Real Sociedad on Saturday.
Having led 3-1 at half-time last time out, Valencia were left shell-shocked when two second-half strikes from Osasuna forced them to settle for a draw in front of their own fans.
Striker Aduriz admitted the result had left everyone at the club bitterly disappointed, but with another test coming up away to Sociedad, he knows the squad need to return to winning ways at the first time of asking.
“It was a big blow, above all because it came at home,” Aduriz said.
“The people most hurt in this situation are us. That’s football though; sometimes you win, sometimes you draw, sometimes you lose. You have to pick yourself up and try to win the next game and beyond, try to turn the situation around. That’s all.”
Valencia boss Unai Emery has come under fire in the wake of Valencia’s slide from early season front-runners to fifth place, but Aduriz insists the coach remains in command of the dressing room.
“I think that he has everything under control,” Aduriz said.
“Everyone has their way of behaving. There are parents who treat their children in one way or another and others say it isn’t the best way to do so.”
“Everyone has their own ideas about how to create discipline in the group, and I’m convinced that the manager has things under control and that he has punished the group in a positive way.”
“It was a game that we never should have let slip through our fingers. We watched the videos and the mistakes (we) made in order to learn, and from those mistakes we hope to continue improving.”
Promoted Sociedad have largely impressed on their return to the top flight, and despite receiving a customary 5-0 thrashing away to Barcelona last week, Aduriz remains wary of the trip to San Sebastian.
“It looks like being a very difficult game. Real Sociedad are doing spectacularly well,” Aduriz said.
“They are having great games at Anoeta and it is a tough place to play at. We are going to have to do things very well in order to take the win, but we are going to do all that we can to get the three points.”
