Valencia manager Unai Emery has predicted a cool and calculated performance when the Spanish club visits Manchester United on Tuesday.
Valencia travels to Old Trafford in their final fixture of the Champions League group stages, having already sewn up second place in Group C and a berth in the next round.
The fixture will decide who will finish top of the group, with Valencia needing to win to leapfrog United.
Emery, whose side lost 1-0 to United at home in September, said the Spaniards will be keen to settle the score in front of the Old Trafford faithful.
“You could talk about a certain sporting type of revenge on the field but the fact that we have already qualified means we can come with a calm attitude and be relaxed enough to go for a victory in a calm and controlled way,” Emery said.
“What is the best way to get a victory here? We have to show character and play with freedom to express our own individual skills, and the players expressing the own ability will be positive for us.”
“I think that through the course of the qualifying stages we have shown some good performances, particularly the one against Manchester United at home, so that gives us the confidence to come here tomorrow night.”
“Sure we have an opponent tomorrow night that can be considered one of the best club sides in the world, but what we have already achieved in Europe and what we are going to achieve, we are already in the top sixteen in Europe.”
“At what standard the rest of the teams are at I don’t know, but tomorrow night will be a good indication.”
Valencia midfielder David Albelda said his team-mates are happy with their European campaign so far.
“It is a great advantage that we are already through, we can approach the game with confidence,” Albelda said.
“You need that extra confidence when coming to a difficult ground like this. We are here to try and win the game as there would be an advantage to come top of the group.”
