Valladolid sacked their coach Onesimo Sanchez on Monday, a day after the team suffered a 2-0 defeat to Villarreal in the Spanish league which fueled the side’s relegation worries.
“After yesterday’s disappointment, and those which have been piling up lately, we have decided to change the coach,” Valladolid president Carlos Suarez told news radio Cadena Ser.
“The first step before you talk to other coaches is to not have a coach. We are looking for someone with the potential to continue on at the club, but for that he must change the face of the team,” he added.
Sanchez, 41, took over from Jose Luis Mendilibar at Valladolid on February 1.
Valladolid’s weekend loss left the club in 19th place in the 20-team standings with 43 points, just one point above last-placed Xerez.
The club, one of the founders of the Spanish league in 1928, returned to the top flight after a three year absence in the 2007-08 season.
