Romania captain Razvan Rat is closing in on a move to Rayo Vallecano, Talksport understands.
The defender was released by West Ham United on the final day of the January transfer window having made twenty appearances in all competitions for Sam Allardyce’s side.
Marseille had also been linked with a move for the 32 year old, though sources in Spain are suggesting that Vallecano are front runners in the race to secure his services.
Having spent the first five years of his career in his home country with Rapid Bucharest, Rat played for a decade in Ukraine with Shakhtar Donetsk, where he won seven league titles to add to the two that he clinched in the Romanian capital.
He has also won domestic cups in seven of the fifteen full seasons in which he has been a professional while internationally he has won ninety-four caps, scoring his only goal for his country in a 5-1 win over Germany in a friendly in 2004.
