Van Bommel bemoans discipline questions

PSV Eindhoven captain Mark van Bommel has bemoaned the attention the media is giving to his yellow card tally.

Spells at Bayern Munich, Barcelona and AC Milan have seen the Dutchman become recognised as a tough tackler and midfield enforcer, supported by his combative displays for the national side at the 2010 World Cup.

The midfielder is annoyed at the constant references to his disciplinary record however, becoming frustrated at questions over the matter after his side’s 5-0 win over Roda JC.

“I committed one foul. Surely not every contact foul is a yellow card?” van Bommel told Eredivisie Live.

“I’m getting a bit tired of the discussion. I make one foul and I get questioned about it.

“I didn’t think it was a yellow card, but if the referee gives it I accept it. Let’s not make a show of it.”

PSV’s next domestic fixture is a trip to Groningen on August 26.
