AC Milan signing Mark Van Bommel believes he will have learned from his mistakes on debut, when he returns to face Genoa on Sunday.
The Dutch midfielder, formerly of Bayern Munich, was sent off in his first Serie A match and subsequently suspended for his red cardl, but he blamed his lack of discipline on moving from the Bundesliga to the Serie A.
“I have learned my lesson and am quickly learning about Italian football,” Van Bommel told the Milan Channel.
“I must admit it is not easy to adapt to Italian football, as it’s completely different from German.”
“The first foul against Catania was a yellow card, but I don’t think the second was. In any case, I have learned my lesson and will not make the same mistake twice.”
Van Bommel added that he hoped to overcome another challenge in his quest to adjust to the Italian game.
“I want to learn Italian as quickly as possible so I can help communicate with my teammates,” he said.
“I hope to win everything with this team, even if it makes me sad that I cannot play in the Champions League (Van Bommel is cup-tied after playing for Bayern Munich).”
