Van Bommels pens new Bayern deal

(GSM) – Mark van Bommel has signed a new one-year deal at Bayern München.

The Dutch captain will now stay at the Allianz Arena until June 2011.

“It was my wish to extend my contract with one year,” Van Bommel said at Bayern’s official website. “I hope to be successful with this team and win trophies.

“That’s our goal for this season but also for next year.”

The Bavarian giants are still in the race to win the Bundesliga, the Champions League as well as the DFB Pokal. Van Bommel is in is fourth season at the Allianz Arena.

“We’re very happy we were able to extend Mark’s contract just before the decisive phase of the season,” said Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. “Mark is a very important player for us and he has proved to be an excellent captain.”
