(GSM) – Daniel van Buyten stays at Bayern München. On Thursday, the German club extended the contract of the Belgian defender. His previous deal was set to expire in June 2010 while his new deal will keep him at the Allianz Arena until 2012.

Earlier today, Bayern announced that they had extended the contracts of youngsters Thomas Müller and Holger Badstuber. The duo signed contracts that expire in June 2014.

“We are delighted that we have been able to tie down these important players with contract extensions,” said Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.

“In the near future, we will also hold talks with the other players whose contracts are expiring at the end of the season to set the foundations for the future.”

It’s believed that Bayern wants to offer new contracts to Dutch midfielder Mark van Bommel and veteran goalkeeper Hans-Jörg Butt.

32-year-old Van Buyten has been a regular starter under coach Louis van Gaal. The towering centre half already score five goals this season.

The extended stay of the Belgium international might be a reason for Franck Ribery to stay at Bayern because the two are close friends.
