Donny van de Beek is set to reject the offer of a new long-term contract from Ajax as he aims to leave the club in the summer, according to The Telegraph.
The 22-year-old was one of the main contributors of Ajax’s incredible Champions League run last season, when they were cruelly kicked out in the semi-final by Tottenham Hotspur in the final seconds of the two-legged tie, pulling the strings in midfield alongside Frenkie de Jong who joined Barcelona last summer. Van de Beek almost became De Jong’s fierce rival with Real Madrid credited with interest in his services, which they still are. Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur have also been mentioned in the same aspect.
The young midfielder’s current contract doesn’t expire before the end of 2021/22 season, but the Dutch champions are apparently keen on securing his stay for longer than that. That is why they’ve decided to ward off suitors by offering him a new deal, but Van de Beek seems to have his heart set on leaving Amsterdam in the summer, despite recently saying that he might still be an Ajax player next season.
