van der Sar doesn’t want Manchester United switch

Edwin van der Sar has confirmed that he will not be leaving his role as general director of Ajax for a position as Manchester United’s new technical director. The 47-year-old, who is widely considered to be one of the best goalkeepers of all time, is currently enjoying his post-playing days with the Dutch side who gave him his first big break way back in 1990. From there he joined Juventus before a somewhat surprising switch to Fulham, before spending the final six years of his career at Old Trafford.

VDS described the report as being nonsense, claiming that he believes he still has a two year contract with Ajax and intends to honour that. He clearly wants to help the club achieve big things, although given the current climate of world football, perhaps his time is best spent ensuring that they are able to keep hold of top youngster Frenkie de Jong.
