Tottenham playmaker Rafael van der Vaart has revealed that he plans to return to Dutch Eredivisie in the future.
The 29-year-old started his professional career at Ajax and enjoyed a lot of success at Amsterdam ArenA before moving to Hamburger in 2005.
The Dutchman has since developed into one of the best attacking midfielders in world football and he believes the time spent in Dutch Eredivisie made him the player he is today.
Van der Vaart, therefore, wants to return to Netherlands and possibly finish his playing career there.
“Personally I see it as an obligation to return to Netherlands to play football,” Van der Vaart told Voetbal International.
“I have a feeling that I should give something back to Eredvisie for what it meant to me. I could grow, develop myself and make the move abroad.”
The experienced midfielder also believes it is a good thing that former Oranje legends are now coaching top clubs in the Netherlands.
“Van Basten coaches Heerenveen, Koeman is at Feyenoord, De Boer at Ajax, and Cocu is now the boss at PSV. I find that beautiful as everyone benefits.”
Van der Vaart managed to kick-start his career at Tottenham following an unsuccessful spell at Real Madrid and he is now considered an integral part of the first team set up at White Hart Lane.
The Dutch midfielder has scored 9 goals in 28 Premier League games this season, while creating 5 goals for his teammates.
