Dutch midfielder Rafael van der Vaart has been included in Real Madrid’s match selection for the first time since the arrival of manager Manuel Pellegrini.
Van der Vaart hadn’t been selected since last season and was expected to head out of Santiago Bernabeu during the summer.
The player stayed however and although he wasn’t picked for the first games of the season, the former Hamburger SV captain may now be given a new chance to prove himself when Real Madrid take on Villarreal this Wednesday.
Pellegrini has several players injured for this game. Ruud van Nistelrooy is out for at least a month, while Alvaro Arbeloa, Christoph Metzelder and Xabi Alonso are all unavailable as well.
