Rafael van der Vaart has advised Netherlands team-mate Arjen Robben to remain at Bayern Munich, despite being booed by the club’s fans.
Robben missed an extra-time penalty during Bayern’s Champions League final loss to Chelsea, and was the subject of the ire of his own fans during a friendly match between Jupp Heynckes’ side and the Netherlands on Tuesday.
Following the incident, Netherlands captain Mark van Bommel said he would consider leaving the Allianz Arena club if he were Robben, while Wesley Sneijder also slammed Bayern’s fans.
However, Van der Vaart feels the former Chelsea man should stay put.
“Robben will play for Bayern next season. It’s the right club for Arjen,” the Tottenham midfielder said.
“Robben is a super professional, despite the jeers in the stadium, he adapted well for the real fans.
“After a strong Euro (2012), all the uncertainty around him will be forgotten.”
Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Bayern’s chief executive, has apologised to Robben on behalf of the supporters.
