Van der Vaart wants to retire at Cadiz

Dutch midfielder Rafael van der Vaart has suggested that he wants to end his career at Spanish club Cadiz.

The 32-year-old will be out of contract at the end of the season and it remains to be seen whether he will end up after talks with Sporting Kansas City fell through.

Van der Vaart did say that he planned to finish his career at Cadiz, having promised his grandfather that he would play for his favourite club before hanging up his boots.

Namely, the player’s mother is from a Cadiz area and this is the main reason why the Netherlands international wants to join the Segunda B side.

Van der Vaart will probably wait for a year or two before moving to Spain, as he is likely to receive several good offers from Europe’s top leagues this summer.

During his second spell with Hamburger SV, the veteran midfielder made a total of 72 Bundesliga appearances, scoring 16 goals.
