Gregory van der Wiel remains open to moving away from Ajax, but isn’t ruling out extending his current deal at the club.
The Netherlands international featured against NAC on Saturday, producing a solid performance as the capital outfit strolled to a 5-0 win.
“I thought it went well, after ten minutes we were already leading 2-0, then I got an assist,” van der Wiel said.
“So yes, I can be satisfied with my own performance. Basically, clubs know by now what I can do.”
When questioned as to whether it could be his last game in an Ajax shirt, his answer was not conclusive.
“Everything is still possible. A new contract with Ajax? Yeah, that is also an option, but that will be a topic after September 1.
“Until then, we look at a transfer. However, there is nothing concrete,” he said.
If he were to remain in Amsterdam, van der Wiel admits that it would not be a nightmare situation.
“I (will) also definitely consider another year at Ajax. If you look at tonight, it is not a punishment.
“We have a good team and with Niklas (Moisander) and Christian Poulsen we have the necessary experience there.”
The 24-year-old did admit however, that it would be difficult to join a potential club after missing pre-season preparations.
“Maybe it is easier if the transfer market closes on August 1, but yes, I don’t make the rules.”
