The agent of Ajax full-back Gregory van der Wiel has admitted that his client would be interested in a move to Real Madrid.
The Dutch international has one year left on his deal at Amsterdam ArenA, but he is looking for a new challenge and is eager to leave this summer.
Van der Wiel was on the verge of agreeing a move to Valencia, but the transfer fell through as the two clubs were unable to reach an agreement over the transfer fee.
He has since been linked with several other top European clubs, including Real Madrid, and his client confirms a move to Santiago Bernabeu is very tempting.
“This is very much a top club, and Greg wants to go to a top club,” agent Hakim Slimani told NUsport.
“There are about ten elite clubs in Europe, and some of them have shown interest in signing van der Wiel.
”But, I cannot say which clubs are in question, or at what level their interest is.”
The representative explains that his client will only decide on his future after the European Championship.
“Gregory has already won two league titles in Holland and is ready to take the next step in his career.
”Now comes the Euro, which is the ideal setting to display his qualities. After the tournament we will study different possibilities.”
Van der Wiel, who scored 2 goals in 19 Eredivisie games for Ajax this season, is expected to be part of Netherlands’ starting line-up at Euro 2012.
