AZ Alkmaar coach Louis van Gaal was delighted to see his side go a record 25th game unbeaten as they continue their march towards the Dutch title, saying with a smile: “At least when I am dead, people will know who I was.”

“It is nice that the names of Van Gaal and this AZ squad are now in the history books,” said the coach. “That is a form of appreciation and recognition. At least when I am dead, people will know who I was. It is unbelievable that such a small club can do so well. We have been unbeaten for so long, and are so stable, that is quite an achievement.”
