The match against Bordeaux (0-2 loss) proved to be another disappointment for Bayern Munich’s fans. The Bavarian giants saw their chances on avancing to the next Champions League round shrink to very small proportions. Bayern’s fate lies in French hands with already placed Bordeaux facing Juventus on November 25.

Bayern needs to win the two remaining matches and then put their hopes on Bordeaux to beat Juventus. Dutch coach Louis van Gaal remains positive but also knows it’s going to be tough. “We still have a small chance. We still have a small chance, but we’re dependent on Bordeaux,” he acknowledged.

After the match, Van Gaal said he wasn’t disappointed with his team performance.

“We kept our shape, we let them have very few chances and we made openings of our own, but we failed to score, and that’s what really matters,” said the Dutch manager

“And it’s the little things that settle a game like that. A shot hits the post, a handball, a free-kick. We battled away but we’ve come up short.”

Mark van Bommel shares his coach’s opinion that there’s still a chance of reaching the next round.

“It’s not over yet because there are still two games to play. If we win them, we’ll be up to ten points. But it’s going to be tough.”

Bordeaux boss Laurent Blanc took advantage of Bayern’s current status. “It’s a terrific result, and we deserved to win 2-0. It was a physically hard game, but we defended well and didn’t allow them many chances. But Bayern’s current lack of confidence was clear for all to see, and we made the most of that.

“If someone had told me in advance we’d have ten points after four games, I’d have said they were mad.”
