(GSM) – Louis van Gaal wants to become a national coach after his time with Bayern Munich. “I want to become a national coach one more time and I want to take part in a big tournament.”

“That’s the one thing missing in my career,” Van Gaal said to the Munchener Abendzeitung on Thursday. Van Gaal was national coach of the Netherlands from 2000 till 2001 but he failed to reach the World Cup of 2002 in Japan and South Korea. After that he coached Barcelona and AZ Alkmaar.

Van Gaal doesn’t necessary need to go to a World Cup. “I also consider the European Championships of 2012 as a nice farewell,” he said. Van Gaal’s contract with Bayern expires in 2011. His position at the Allianz Arena has been under scrutiny for a few weeks now due to Bayern’s slump. Next week’s decisive Champions League match against Juventus will be crucial for Van Gaal’s future at FCB. The Bavarians have to win to advance to the next round of the tournament.
