AC Milan have moved one step closer to signing Dutch midfielder Marco van Ginkel from Chelsea, reports La Gazzetta dello Sport.
The Rossoneri have been negotiating a loan deal for the Netherlands international over the past few days as they hope to lure the talented footballer to San Siro before the transfer window closes.
La Gazzetta dello Sport has revealed that Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani phoned Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho to try and persuade him to allow Van Ginkel to move to AC Milan.
As a result, the Rossoneri are expected to wrap up the deal for Marco van Ginkel in the coming days, while they remain interested in Fernando Torres as well.
Milan need to sign a replacement for Mario Balotelli and they seem ready to take a gamble with the Spaniard.
Following what was a pretty disappointing last season, the Rossoneri aim to mount a serious top 3 challenge this season, and are priced at 5/2 to clinch Champions League qualification.
