Dutch legend Wim van Hanegem believes PSV Eindhoven lack the desire to win the Eredivisie, and feels they are now out of the title race.
PSV were beaten 2-0 by Ajax at Amsterdam Arena on Sunday, with goals from Ismail Aissati and Siem De Jong doing the damage.
The Eindhoven giants now trail Eredivisie leaders AZ Alkmaar by five points and van Hanegem believes PSV will not be able to make up the ground with only seven games remaining.
“PSV played exactly like they did under previous coach Fred Rutten. They lacked the hunger to win. It’s a real shame and a missed opportunity for PSV,” van Hanegem wrote in his weekly column in AD/Sportwereld.
“It’s fair to say that they are out of the title race now. They simply lack the true desire to win the league title. They only have themselves to blame.
“I enjoy seeing a strong PSV, but their season is pretty much over. And I can only notice that’s pretty early with seven more games to go.”
PSV resume Eredivisie action on March 31 at home against VVV Venlo.
