(GSM) – South African midfielder Elrio van Heerden has left Blackburn and joined Turkish outfit Sivasspor.
The 26-year-old joined Rovers as a free agent in June 2009, penning a two-year contract at Ewood Park.
He has, however, made just two substitute appearances for the club, with both of them coming in the Carling Cup.
Unsurprisingly, Van Heerden has recently expressed a desire to move on, keen to find regular first-team football away from Blackburn.
He is desperate to be involved in this summer’s World Cup, with football’s premier tournament heading to his homeland, and knows he must be playing in order to make the cut.
Van Heerden has therefore snapped up the opportunity to head to Turkey, with Sivasspor coach Muhsin Ertugral revealing that his deal could be extended past the end of the season.
“Elrio is going to be with us until the end of the season, but we have an option to extend our contract next season,” Ertugral told KickOff.com.
