Real Madrid-striker Ruud van Nistelrooy made his comeback on Tuesday night after an absence of eight months due to a knee injury. Thirty minutes into the second half he came on to the pitch for Kaká in the match for the Trofeo Bernabéu against Rosenborg BK.

After his entrance the Madrid fans gave the Dutch goalgetter a warm and emotional welcome. Already during his warming up people chanted his name. The 33-year-old Van Nistelrooy was speechless: ‘’This means a lot to me. It was very impressive and words cannot describe what I feel.’’

Last season didn’t last long for the former Manchester United striker. In November he injured his knee when he played against Juventus for the Champions League. He went to Colorado for a surgery and it took him eight months to recover.

Van Nistelrooy wasn’t the only player who returned after months of recovery: midfielder Mahamadou Diarra replaced Lassana Diarra fifteen minutes before the end of the match. The Malian international played his last match in March 2008.

Norwegian side Rosenborg wasn’t able to keep up with the stars of Real Madrid: 4-0. The goals came from Karim Benzema (2), Raúl and Lassana Diarra.
