Dutch striker Ricky van Wolfswinkel is about to sign a new contract with Sporting Lisbon, according to the player’s representative.
The 23-year-old joined Lions in a €5.1 million move from Utrech last summer, and he quickly established himself as a key player in the side.
The Dutch international enjoyed a lot of success during his first season at the club, scoring 20 goals in 40 competitive games, and has subsequently seen his name linked with top European clubs.
The Portuguese giants have so far managed to ward off interest from clubs like Manchester United and Liverpool, and they are even prepared to offer the striker a new and improved contract.
Ricki van Wolfswinkel has no less than four years left on his current deal, but his representative admits the Dutch hotshot could sign a new contract by the end of the year.
“It is true that there is still nothing at present, but I am going to Lisbon in the first week of September,” agent Louis Laros said to O Jogo.
“I will meet with (Sporting president) Carlos Freitas to see what Sporting have to offer, but I think everything suggests Van Wolfswinkel will renew.”
