Dutch striker Ricky van Wolfswinkel admits he hopes to turn his loan deal at Saint Etienne into permanent move.
The Norwich City record signing was loaned to les Verts in the summer following a largely disappointing first season in England, with a £6 million buy-out clause inserted in the deal.
The 25-year-old has since managed to show some improvement, scoring two goals in eleven Ligue 1 outings, but it remains to be seen whether he will manage to earn a long-term contract at Stade Geoffroy-Guichard.
Van Wolfswinkel claims he is perfectly happy at Saint Etienne and hopes to persuade the club chiefs to activate his release clause.
“I’ve played on a lot of stages, in a lot of countries as well. The atmosphere here is exceptional – and I don’t say that because I am part of the club. These are probably the best fans I’ve had the chance to play in front,” the striker told Le Progres.
“I’m seriously thinking about staying here. I would like to, even though I know things can evolve quickly. But for it to happen, I will need to play well, be important for the team.
“But I don’t see why I would want to go elsewhere. The Netherlands, Portugal, England, France – we’ve moved a lot and my family feels good here. People are very friendly.”
Ricky van Wolfswinkel made a name for himself at Utrecht, where a 15-goal season saw him earn a lucrative move to Sporting Lisbon.
The forward then enjoyed two very successful years at Estadio Jose Alvalade, but in turn largely struggled in England, netting once in 25 Premier League matches.
