Could Olivier Giroud be heading to Major League Soccer? It certainly is a possibility, at least according to Sportsnet 650. They are claiming that Vancouver Whitecaps have contacted Chelsea over a potential move for the French striker.
The report is suggesting that the playing time the 33-year-old Giroud has had this season is not good enough, especially with the flourishing Tammy Abraham scoring consistently so far. Giroud could be truly tempted to leave Chelsea in order to find more playing time and Vancouver want to get the best out of that. They would get Giroud as a Designated Player and make him the face of their franchise.
However, things will not be that smooth. The reason is that Sportsnet are reporting that if Giroud was to move to MLS, he would rather play for clubs from Los Angeles, Miami, Washington, Chicago or New York. If that was to happen, his new club would have to pay discovery rights to Vancouver who were the first to put him on the discovery list.
