Wolverhampton Wanderers suffered a defeat that probably wasn’t easy to digest at the hands of Premier League leaders Liverpool on Sunday at Anfield.
Sadio Mane scored for Liverpool in the 42nd minute and the goal was initially disallowed by referee Anthony Taylor who had judged Mane to have been assisted by Adam Lallana using his arm, but the VAR system overturned the decision and allowed the goal to stand, with video footage from all angles making it clear Lallana had played the ball with his shoulder. In the first-half stoppage time, Pedro Neto scored what appeared to have been an equalizer for Wolves, but VAR again intervened, ruling Jonny Otto to have been in an offside position in the build up.
The combination of the two moments has caused a lot of stir, particularly among the fanbases of Liverpool’s main rivals. Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo, however, doesn’t dispute the decisions in terms of accuracy, but he believes the people making the call don’t feel the game.
