(GSM) – Eljero Elia has found it hard to recover his excellent form from his debut season at Hamburger SV.
The Dutch winger had some impressive displays at the World Cup and was linked continually with a move away from Hamburg this summer.
Nevertheless, HSV refused to let their star player go. The 23-year-old has been struggling to make an impact though this season, even though his coach Armin Veh believes Elia is his best player.
“He’s actually our best player and the biggest talent I’ve seen in quite a while. He can do pretty much anything,” Veh was quoted as saying by Hamburger Morgenpost.
“However, he has to be patient for now. He needs to become more consistent. If he manages to improve on that part of his game, he will certainly find his way at the club.”
Veteran midfielder Zé Roberto predicts a bright future for Elia if the latter continues to work hard.
“Ruud van Nistelrooy and I speak with him very often. We’ve told Eljero that he should do some extra work ahead of and after the regular training sessions. I’m confident that he’ll play at a European giant in two or three years.”
