Argentine giants Velez Sarsfield have admitted they are in contact with Benfica regarding the sale of winger Ivan Bella.
The 23-year-old has been in scintillating form this season and is widely tipped to move to Europe in the near future.
Newcastle are believed to be following the talented midfielder, but Benfica are also reported to be showing interest.
Velez Sarsfield vice-president Julio Baldomar has now confirmed the Portuguese club have made the initial steps in an attempt to sign Ivan Bella.
“Currently, we have not received an official proposal, but we are in constant contact,” Baldomar explained to O Jogo.
“We have talked on several occasions, and if they express desire to buy Ivan, they will certainly communicate it officially.”
The player currently has a €4 million release clause inserted in his deal, but Baldomar admits the club would consider all serious offers.
“It is a point of reference. Otamendi had a clause of €20 million and was sold for €8. All reasonable offers will be considered.”
Ivan Bella came through the youth ranks at Velez Sarsfield and was handed a league debut in the final game of the season in June 2008.
In total, the winger has made 81 league appearances for the club, scoring 7 goals in the process.
