Ajax defender Joel Veltman has signed a two-year contract extension with the Eredivisie champions.
The 21-year-old, a product of the Dutch club’s famed youth academy, made his first-team debut in August 2012, coming off the bench during a 6-1 win over NEC.
The centre-back went on to make nine further appearances in the 2012-13 season – four of those coming as starts – and has now earned himself a new deal that runs until June 2017.
“The 2013-2014 season will be a very important year for me,” he told the club’s official website. “I had a contract for two years and extending it gives me great confidence for the future.”
Ajax also confirmed the sale of goalkeeper Chiel Kramer to Heerenveen on Thursday.
The 21-year-old never made a first-team appearance for Frank de Boer’s side, but was named on the bench on two occasions last season.
He departs on a free transfer and has signed a one-year contract with the Abe Lenstra Stadion side.
