Vermaelen linked with Arsenal return

Arsenal could be set to re-sign Thomas Vermaelen from Barcelona, according to the Daily Star.

West Ham United are also keen on securing the services of the Belgium international, who left the Emirates Stadium for the Nou Camp just two years ago.

Vermaelen has made only twenty-one appearances for the Catalan club in all competitions while his only goal for them coming in a 1-0 win over Malaga last August.

During his five years at Arsenal, he played one hundred and fifty times, scoring fifteen times and was part of the squad that won the FA Cup shortly before he left for Barca, for whom he has won back-to-back La Liga titles and Spanish cups and the Champions League.

Internationally he has been capped fifty-eight times for Belgium, scoring once with four of those games coming at this summer’s European Championships where his side was eventually eliminated by Wales at the quarter final stage.
