According to a recent report from Sport, Thomas Vermaelen is being tipped to leave Barcelona during the summer transfer window. The Belgian defender has suffered from a series of notable injury problems throughout the course of his time in the game, and particularly, during his time at the Nou Camp. Vermaelen was widely considered to be one of the best defenders in world football during his prime, but it feels like it’s been a while since he was truly at that point. He was best known for his spell at the Emirates with Arsenal, where he enjoyed five successful years with the Gunners. He has spent the same amount of time with Barca, but hasn’t been able to enjoy anywhere near the same level of joy that he did in England.
At the age of 33, it’d be interesting to see what kind of team takes a shot on him in the transfer window.
