Ajax coach Frank de Boer believes goalkeeper Kenneth Vermeer will start in their crucial Champions League tie against Dinamo Zagreb on Tuesday.
There had been doubts over Vermeer’s availability after he had to be stretchered off during Ajax’s 2-2 draw with AZ Alkmaar on Saturday following a collision with Pontus Wernbloom.
It had been feared the Dutchman would miss his side’s Champions League match against Dinamo Zagreb, and face an extended stint on the sidelines, but de Boer says he should be fit to face the Croatian champions.
“The injury is not too bad,” De Boer told De Telegraaf. “He couldn’t breathe and he felt sick. But he will be back underneath the bar against Dinamo Zagreb.”
Vermeer joined Ajax in 1999 and spent several years on the bench before he became the first-choice goalkeeper this season after Maarten Stekelenburg’s transfer to Roma.
Ajax are second from the bottom of Champions League Group D with just one point from their opening two matches.
