Tottenham Hotspur are keen to tie Jan Vertonghen down to a new contract, according to the Express.

The twenty-eight year old, who is currently out injured, currently has a deal that runs until the end of the 2017/18 campaign though the North London club are keen on him extending his stay.

The ex-Ajax man has been one of Spurs’ stand out performers so far this season, with his consistently solid displays helping them to second place in the Premier League table.

Since moving to White Hart Lane in the summer of 2012, the defender has racked up one hundred and sixty-eight appearances in all competitions, scoring eight goals and was part of the squad that reached last season’s League Cup final.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side are currently just five points behind league leaders Leicester City with thirteen games to play, and are priced at 5/1 to win the title.
