According to a recent report from Sky Sports, former Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen looks set to sign for Portuguese giants Benfica.
The 33-year-old veteran is currently a free agent, with the plan reportedly being for him to sign a three-year contract if he is able to pass his medical which will take place today and tomorrow.
The Belgian had previously been heavily linked with a move away from Spurs, and when the current campaign came to an end, it was clear to see that he would not be staying in North London.
At first he was linked with a move to another Premier League side, with Wolverhampton Wanderers being on the tip of everyone’s tongue, but it seems like he has decided against such a move.
Benfica are considered to be one of the biggest European clubs outside of the traditional top leagues, so it’ll be intriguing to see how Jan settles in.
