Veteran coach Angel Cappa said on Tuesday he had been appointed coach of ailing Argentinian giants River Plate.
The 63-year-old – who is expected to be unveiled officially later at a press conference with club president Daniel Passarella – replaces Leonardo Astrada, who was sacked on Monday after presiding over the club’s worst series of results in its trophy-laden history.
River Plate, twice crowned Copa Libertadores champions, lie 17th in the domestic title race while Cappa – whose mentor was 1978 World Cup winning coach Cesar Menotti – had guided Huracan into second spot.
