Video – 10 Premier League footballers who light up the game

  • 10. Rio Ferdinand
  • Lots of people don’t like the United and England defender but to my mind, he has been the best centre half in the world for the past couple of years. He has eliminated all of the silly mistakes he used to make and is now a perfect example of what you want from a central defender.

  • 9. Emmanuel Adebayor
  • Another player who isn’t universally liked but when he is on form he is close to being unplayable. At times he is one of the best strikers I have seen in English football.

  • 8. Didier Drogba
  • There’s a pattern developing here about the fact that these players are not liked. Drogba is theatrical and moany. In truth, he winds me up. Having said that, he is great to watch. Pace, power, strength, finishing, holding the ball up, heading and shooting. He’s got the lot.

  • 7. Dimitar Berbatov
  • One of the laziest players I have ever seen. Can you imagine how good he would be if he occasionally broke into a sweat?! He has the best first touch of any player in the Premier League.

  • 6. Frank Lampard
  • Still going! Still scoring! Still Chelsea’s biggest threat. I don’t really know what it is that he has got, but if he could bottle it and sell it, he’d be the world’s richest man.

  • 5. Steve Gerrard
  • An inspiration for his club. A one man team at times. Rarely produces it for his country but week in, week out, he is one of the best in the league.

  • 4. Cesc Fabregas
  • Injured at the moment and maybe wasn’t quite producing the form of last season before that. At his best, he can unlock teams with short and long passing. Arsenal are great to watch. The reason? Cesc Fabregas.

  • 3. Wayne Rooney
  • England’s best player. Simple as that.

  • 2. Fernando Torres
  • A striker who is a joy to watch. Direct, skilful and strong. Add to that the fact that he scores huge amounts of goals and you aren’t far away from the perfect forward.

  • 1. Cristiano Ronaldo
  • Love him or hate him, you can’t deny his ability. He is great to watch, even if all you want to do is see him mess up! Trouble is, he doesn’t mess up very often!
