Former Premier League referee Mark Clattenburg has earned widespread praise for his decision to halt a Saudi Arabian Cup match so players can answer a call to prayer.

Al Feiha locked horns with Al Fateh in the Saudi King’s Cup on Wednesday night and with the score tied at 1-1 with 90 minutes already gone, the clash went into extra-time.

Five minutes into the added time, Clattenburg was forced to stop the match with call for prayed echoing from a nearby mosque.

His decision was met with the applause at the King Salman Abdulaziz Sport City Stadium.

And yes, Al Feiha went on to win the game thanks to a late strike from Al Khaibari.
