With all the talk about Michael Owen and the injury to Obafemi Martins, Newcastle striker Mark Viduka is something of a forgotten man at St James’ Park.
He has been missing from the line-up since May with a troublesome achilles injury. It was hoped that he would be able to avoid having to have an operation but following a scan, both Viduka and Newcastle’s medical team wish to get a second opinion.
He has flown to Australia for a second scan amidst fears that he could miss another six months if surgery is actually required.
Viduka made twenty-one appearances for Newcastle last season, scoring seven times. To have a striker playing alongside Michael Owen and scoring a goal every three games could have made a considerable difference to the side so far this season.
