David Villa has lauded a ‘far superior’ Barcelona for handing La Liga title rivals Real Madrid a humbling 5-0 loss in Monday’s ‘El Clasico’.
Villa got on the scoresheet twice inside three second-half minutes, Xavi and Pedro struck early and Jeffron added another in injury time.
It was a stunning, all-encompassing performance by the Spanish champions, who gave a sullen Jose Mourinho his first loss at the Real helm and the worst defeat of his managerial career.
An ecstatic Villa praised his team-mates for humiliating Los Blancos at the Camp Nou, though he says the title race is still far from over.
“Today Barca were far superior and enjoyed playing in its own style,” Villa told AS in a post-match interview.
“And what better way than the way we have done it – we could not have asked for more.”
“Madrid did not feel at ease and did not know how to, or could not I think, dominate the midfield, which is the strength of our team.”
“Now we are two points clear, but we have to continue to work hard as we are only in November. We have an advantage, but we now have to keep on winning.”
